Derby Report, 4/26

Today was bitterly, bitingly cold. For a California girl, today almost wasn't worth it. Bluegrass Cat emerged from underneath the blanket of night to finally gallop in the daylight. He was alert and eager, but his performance wasn't as thrilling as Steppenwolfer's. The gray colt was rolling smoothly down along the rail as if he was working.

Lawyer Ron is a powerful, on the muscle animal who jogs and gallops with his mouth open and head cocked, always. Even walking onto the track he was grabbing at the bit and looking determined.

We went to check on Cause to Believe (tied to the back of his stall, so no pictures) and then Sweetnorthernsaint. "SNS" as he is sometimes called has a very nice coat, but seemed rather thin, hopefully because of the van ride. It will be interesting to see him on the track.

At that point we were so cold we simply had to leave! Tomorrow: Warmer Clothes!
