Bellamy Road Takes the Cradle
by Emily Hufford

Shrewd trainer Michael Dickinson opted to travel to River Downs to see Bellamy Road run in the Cradle Stakes instead of see Tapit run in the Pennsylvania Derby. Tapit finished ninth, but Bellamy Road romped to victory over two other extremely talented colts who finished heads apart, Diamond Isle and Scipion.

Bellamy Road is a son of Concerto who broke his maiden at Delaware Park on August fourth by seven lengths, earning an 80 Beyer Speed Figure. He is owned by Kinsman Stable and was ridden by Abel Castellano, Jr.

Diamond Isle, a Ken McPeek trainee, finished ahead of the $1.9 million buy-back Scipion. All three colts are expected to go on to greater achievements.

Im a Dixie Girl Wins the Bassinet
by Emily Hufford

Im a Dixie Girl, a two-year-old daughter of Dixie Union, won her second stakes race in a row when she took the Bassinet Stakes at River Downs on Saturday. The beautiful dark bay filly was ridden by Willie Martinez, who guided her to a neck win over Runway Model, a daughter of Petionville.

Gallant Secret, returning from a layoff since finishing second to Lunarpal in May, finished third, and Angel Trumpet was fourth.

Bernie Flint trains Im a Dixie Girl, who won the Colleen Stakes by 8 1/4 lengths on August 7th. She is owned by William Carl.
