Summit
of Speed Dominated by Stardom
by Emily
Hufford
The Summit of Speed at Calder in Florida was delayed
one day due to the impending Hurricane Dennis, but it was worth
waiting for when the card was dominated by stars from all across
the country. The best performance on the card was the one given
by Lost in the Fog, who earned a 116 Beyer Speed Figure in a 7 1/4
length win over inferior horses. The colt was ridden by regular
rider Russell Baze, who guided Lost in the Fog to his eighth win
in eight starts.

a filly who was winning her seventh race in nine starts, and became a millionare
with the win. Jerry Bailey rode the filly, who is trained by Frank Brothers.
The daughter of Hennessy won by 5 1/4 lengths.

The Bob Baffert-trained Woke Up Dreamin' won his second
race in a row, following the True North Breeders' Cup at Belmont in June,
by winning the Smile Handicap. The son of Holy Bull, who is owned by Mike
Pegram, was ridden by Mike Smith for the victory. Woke Up Dreamin' is
a five-year-old and was previously best known for finishing second in
a match race at Del Mar two summers ago.
Leave Me Alone won the Azalea Breeders' Cup under Kent
Desormeaux. The California-bred filly defeated Hide and Chic by a nose.
