Del
Mar Track Welcomes Horses
by Emily Hufford Horses were allowed onto the main track on July 13th at Del Mar, and although only a few were out in the heavy early morning fog that blinded drivers on the I-5, it was still a spectacular and familiar sight when horses took to the track. Two-year-olds and older horses alike frisked and played and spooked as finishing touches were put on the grandstand and turf course in preparation for opening day on July 20, one week away. This year's Del Mar meet will again feature great racing at the seaside racetrack, as well as free concerts on Friday nights and some Saturdays. The track runs Wednesday through Monday with Tuesday being the only day dark to racing. The meet will run until September 7th, the day of the closing feature the Del Mar Futurity. The best raceday of the meet will be Pacific Classic Day on August 21. |
