Del Mar Days 7/30

It was with great surprise that I noticed Roman Ruler in the paddock on Saturday. The handsome son of Fusaichi Pegasus was walking around with stablemates entered on Sunday's card, sometimes acting up and sometimes posing with his regal head stretched high. I learned that he was schooling for the Haskell at Monmouth by visiting Del Mar's paddock.

Saturday was the San Clemente for three-year-old fillies on the turf. Nice fillies such as Louvain, Memorette, and Thatswhatimean were entered, but in the end it was all Julio Canani's Shining Energy. The chestnut filly gave Canani yet another stakes win over the Del Mar turf. Earlier in the meet he took down another with Amorama, who won the 2004 Del Mar Oaks.
