Daily Kentucky Derby Report, 5/2

Monday morning I woke up exhausted seeing as how Sunday I was running non-stop doing a zillion things, and here I was, another morning at the track going on 4 hours of sleep. But you don't see me complaining.

Sort It Out

Closing Argument

Emily had an 8:00 AM final so I braved Churchill by my lonesome. I caught Baffert's Sort It Out working just after the break around 8:30, he went four furlongs in :47.20. Then Frankel's Ghostzapper and Derby contender High Limit made their usual appearance. A couple minutes later, I was shocked to see one of my most favorite familiar faces ever, Kitten's Joy. I hadn't seen him in a long time, but he's back training at Churchill Downs for Dale Romans.

Dance Away Capote

Runway Model

Kiaran McLaughlin's first Derby contender, Closing Argument, worked five furlongs at 8:45 in 1:01.60. Bernie Flint's Oaks contender Runway Model was ponied a little before 9. The morning continued as I hoped Emily was surviving the final, plus I keep forgetting training goes all the way until 10 now (it used to close at 9:15). So since I don't like to pounce on trainers like the other media, I decided to wait until something else exciting showed up. Finally around 9:30 my shivering wait paid off; Dance Away Capote appeared at the end of the track. She's my Oaks pick, and she's gorgeous. It was a cold morning so she went out in the Graham Motion training blanket instead of the Oaks towel, which I'm told she usually trains in. Until next time...!
