Churchill Downs was alive with a record breaking Kentucky Oaks crowd, which witnessed Summerly turning back the challenge of favored Sis City. The three-year-old daughter of Summer Squall is trained by Steve Assmussen, who ironically lost Sis City in a claiming race last year.

In the Gold, Nick Zito's Oaks filly, rallied to be second, and longshot Gallant Secret was third. Sis City, coming off a huge romp in the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland, could do no better than fourth. Summerly was ridden by Jerry Bailey and paid $11.20 to win.
