Patchen Beauty Enjoying Life in Kentucky
by Emily Hufford

Tucked in along a busy Lexington Road is Patchen Wilkes Farm, a friendly horse farm that is famous for its rare white Thoroughbreds. A big, airy foaling barn is the home of the popular white Thoroughbred mare Patchen Beauty. The homebred daughter of Hatchet Man thrilled her large fan base with two wins in twenty three starts. Those wins meant even more to her owners, who also owned Patchen Beauty's dam, Precious Beauty.

Patchen Beauty has passed on her special trait to three foals. One of them, The White Fox, has already won a race at River Downs in Ohio. The next is a yearling filly by Skip Away, named Spot of Beauty for her unusual spots that shine through on her white coat.

This year, Patchen Beauty produced a full brother to The White Fox, by Pioneering, and the white colt is named Patchen Prince. Patchen Beauty is back in foal to Skip Away.

Summers are difficult for the white horses because the sun can cause their thin coats to sunburn easily, especially when at Patchen Wilkes the horses are outside over twenty hours a day.

The White Fox is in active training at River Downs, and is expected to run again very soon.

There is one more white Thoroughbred in training, a two-year-old son of Airdrie Apache named All Glory to God. He was in training at Del Mar this summer before returning to San Luis Rey Downs in California.
